Space Ship One rockets over 62 miles high leaves White Knight at 10 miles.

  Burt's dad George Rutan was my first cousin and he had always kept us informed about his children. He and his wife Irene were so proud of their children. They loved to take them on their flying trips and so the children learned to fly before they learned to drive a car. When Burt was a child he starting building model airplanes from the scrap pieces his older brother Dick threw away. Burt focused on inventing, designing and building his own from scratch rather than using ready made kits.

When Burt was older he built real planes. His vari-eze types became popular and he would test-fly every new design. It was at this stage that his parents asked us cousins to pray for his safety.

The most exciting of our annual cousins' reunions was in 1985 when we met at the Mojave airport. Burt showed us his new Beachcraft. Dick Rutan and Jeana Yeager showed us the new voyager they hoped to be able to fly around the world non-stop. It was still under construction. Motors were being exchanged. Burt had designed, and tested and knew it could fly the distance but that it would not be easy. Human endurance, weather, and getting it in the air would be the challenges they faced. The entire Rutan family with a team of helpers were excitedly working on this project.

   Our 1985 reunion included a big pot-luck dinner, a progress report by Pop George, and a vari-eze plane ride to the oldest person present. My 90 year old Aunt Stella thrilled to be chosen. Burt told Dick to take it easy on her and not do any stunts. But when he was about to bring her back from their flight she said, "I want you to do a loop or something! so he obliged and she was delighted. u

A year later the flight was completed. What a wonderful Christmas present this was for our country that had a bad year; terrorism, scandal, and the Challenger disaster. President Reagan watched on TV the voyager land. When Dick made several passes for the benefit of the crowds. Reagan cried out, "Why don't they just land it? What are they waiting for? Just land it.

Some one asked me if I would like to take a ride in the space ship. Well, I don't have the $200,000. so I am not going to worry about it.

My goal is to ride through space in one of God's jets.

I have learned that God's word does not fail. His promises to people are conditional and may seem to fail because they choose not to accept the promise. For example it was God's plan for the children of Israel to be the leading nation of the world. Their life-style would be so attractive that nations from all over the earth would come to learn the secrets of their success.

This is the context of Isaiah 60:8 LB -- "And who are these who fly like a cloud to Israel, like doves to their nests?" The prophet had a vision of thousands of people flying to Jerusalem. That could have happened but it did not happen! Why did the prophecy appear to fail? The reason is that God's chosen people rejected the instruction of the prophets, killed many of them and ended up crucifying Jesus their would be King.

Nevertheless God's purpose will be fulfilled. God has a New Jerusalem in heaven with many mansions prepared for his people, and at the Second Coming the prophecy will be fulfilled. King Jesus will gather up all his faithful and obedient followers into the biggest transport cloud the world has ever seen and they will fly to the Holy City.

A thousand times ten thousand and thousands of thousands will fly like doves to their nest, and to their long hoped-for rest!

What a rest that will be! A rest from the works of the flesh; envy, strife, anxiety, war, deceit, and destruction. That kind of work is over. The Sabbath peace of God will last for eternity.

The weekly Sabbath will continue as a day of praise, worship, and fellowship as people from all over the world fly into the Holy City.

Isaiah 66:22. "For as the new heavens and the new earth which I will make shall remain before Me,'' says the Lord, "So shall your descendants and your name remain.
23. And it shall come to pass that from one New Moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, all flesh shall come to worship before Me,'' says the Lord."

The very soil of this world will have a Sabbath rest.

For almost 6000 years man has sown the earth with the seeds of sin; and he has reaped bloodshed and sorrow. But God has promised a 1000 year period when the earth will lie fallow.

Many Bible scholars believe the command to work the land 6 years and let it rest the 7th year was a type pointing forward to the 1000 year millennial rest that would follow after the 6000 years of earthly works.

Notice Henry's Concise Commentary on Exodus 23:10-11: --

"Every seventh year the land was to rest. They must not plough or sow it; what the earth produced of itself, should be eaten, and not laid up. This law seems to have been intended to teach dependence on Providence, and God's faithfulness in sending the larger increase while they kept his appointments. It was also typical of the heavenly rest, when all earthly labours, cares, and interests shall cease for ever. "

God's original plan for mankind was one of love, joy, peace, faith, hope and happiness. Even though disobedience and rebellion have delayed the plan of God, the plan will be accomplished.

After the 1000 year period of Revelation 20 is over this planet will be renewed to its Eden glory. The capital city New Jerusalem where the throne of God is located will be moved to this world. And then the representatives of the other worlds will bring their gifts and tokens of love to the King of kings and Lord of lords.

The prophecy: -- "Who are these who fly like a cloud, and like doves to their roosts?" will find its ultimate fulfillment.
